Google, Volkswagen Team Up For Navigation System

Google and Volkswagen are combining forces with nVidia to develop an in-car navigation map system that will be capable of displaying three dimensional images with great detail. It is reported to be unlike any other navigation system available today.

It might include such features as a vehicle-centric touchscreen interface tied into Google's Earth software. Also, it will feature accurate 3D maps and real-time traffic updates.

It will take advantage of increased accuracy of GPS, dead-reckoning and laser-radar images, plus enhanced car-to-infrastructure communication.

This all sounds great, but it might work and look too good. Drivers will be too busy admiring how good and detailed it looks rather than keeping their eyes on the road.
